Soccernet Review:
In a world of technology, what hope is there for board games? With everyone scrambling to get hold of the latest Playstation or Nintendo Wii game, does anyone stay in playing a board game anymore?
Well, apparently so, or they wouldn't have made this one. It's not Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit or any of the other classics (although I'm pretty sure they still get played); it is in fact, a football management game.
The increase of video games has seen the demise of the likes of Subbuteo and Blow Football, but with Title Chase, it appears there may be something to rival the gaming market in terms of management simulation.
First off, you can be whichever team you want to be: Real Madrid, AC Milan or even Barnsley Reserves. The league system is incredibly simple, and there's even a CD to help if you'd like to print out all your team names. Just create the league, add the teams and then keep track of who goes up or down after the matches.
The game is at its best when you have a number of people playing. Between two and twelve is recommended on the box, but four is ideal to help fill the different roles required. If you don't have that many, the roles aren't exactly taxing so it is fairly easy to manage with less. You're given a decent budget to start with, but in truth, it's hard to accumulate the STAR players that you need to succeed. These players give you extra goals whenever you play a match.
You get RED and YELLOW cards throughout the game, akin to the CHANCE card in monopoly where you can either win or lose money, or keep hold of a card that will dig you out of trouble later in the game. Suspensions, fines and penalty cards are the norm. The Cup competition is an interesting twist, and the league gives out healthy bonuses upon the completion of the year so that next season you have a vastly increased budget.
Judged against its peers, Title Chase is fairly similar to Monopoly, save for the 'Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200 part. Easy to learn, with a full range of options, Title Chase is a half decent game.

Customer comments:
“Just wanted to let you know that I played Title Chase with my eight year old son over the last weekend. He's not a big football fan but he loved the game. It was refreshing to play a board game with him over a sustained period of time and it made a change from the typical request of 'can I play on the Xbox?' to 'can I play Title Chase?'.... Congratulations on an excellent product, Rgds, Sean”
“This is the best game I’ve played ever! Everyone absolutely loves it and the kids have wanted to play it every night since we got it! It's great as it provides fun for all the family and creates a real atmosphere – very different to any other board games I’ve played. It’s great that you have complete control and you are able to choose your own teams - so far I’ve managed Spurs, Real Madrid, Yeovil and even England in my attempts to win the league.... I can fully recommend this game and it is a perfect birthday present, thanks, Kerry”
“Quality game, I liked everything about it. Intense competition and build up of excitement, it really captures the ups and downs of football season. I like board games, but this has several twists to make it interesting.... Regards, Jamie”
“I found it a good laugh and very enjoyable when playing with friends. You could tell from people’s ‘oohs’, ‘aahs’ and laughter that everyone enjoyed it. Just trying to win my first title now.... Cheers, Neil”
“This game is great because you really feel like you’re part of a football season and the future of your club depends on what you do. When I played against teams such as Man U or Chelsea, I actually started to worry about playing my star players, even though it’s just a game! I just got so caught up in it all! Title Chase is fun, easy to learn, competitive and the quality is brilliant, it’s not going to fall apart in 5 minutes like other games I’ve bought.... Congratulations, Shaun”
“Fantastic game and good name - everyone is chasing the title! I enjoyed the fact tactics played a role and it wasn’t all luck. It's nice to have a board game again after so many computer games. Beats Monopoly hands down!.... Thanks, Mark”
“Perfect game for a night in with the lads! Funds were a bit low after Christmas, so instead of going out I invited a load of my mates round to play this game I saw on here and it was brilliant. Not only do you get to be the manager of your favourite football team (are you listening Sven?) but you can have a few beers whilst doing it! Even a couple of guys who aren’t really into football enjoyed it. I play Championship Manager which is really cool but this game allows you to play against other player’s face to face which is brilliant. The best part is actually getting to see your mate’s expression as you hammer them 4 nil in the cup final, classic!.... Well done, James”
